I have am studying the different breeds or types of Native Pakistani fighting dogs. More than 8 Different types and plus many sub types that breed true to their type have been identified and isolated. Due to the presence of several separate fighting breeds and their constant crossing with each other is resulting in confusion and in too many variations in this Breed that I classify as Bully kutta bandogge. Below are some of the breeds that I believe breed true to their type.
1. Ancient Type Bully Kutta
2. Modern Bully Kutta
3. Aseel Bully Kutta
3. Bully Gullterr
4. Nagi Bully Kutta
5. Heavy stocky Bully Kutta (almost always has black circling around his eyes)
6. Slender Tall bully Kutta (I think the ancient alaunt is so much present in this one)
7. Huge Long faced Bully Kutta
8. Narrow chested Black Bully Kutta
9. Mastiff Type Bully kutta
10. Indian Mastiff
I am still in my initial stages of research, hence I m not claiming to be an expert on this subject. I am sharing what I have found out so far and i am terming the breeds as per their looks:(later i will try to provide local names, background history and more information on each breed type)
Because we have more than 8 types of fighting dog breeds It makes extremely difficult to isolate each type and present it separately to AKC and UKC to be registered. It is not impossible to do so. Even the APBT and the Amercian Stafford shire terrier were once known as the same breed. But later on were recognized as two separate breeds. (Even till date some pit&staffie owners have dual papers for their pets)
But I personally think we are better off without the recognition of our native breeds, as this insures better gene pool, vitality and far superior health than those who are so called "accepted breeds by AKC or UKC"
Even though Bully Kutta is a very well known breed among dog men around the world ((those who are into dog fighting know this breed just too well).But for the general enthusiasts, due to misconceptions, many think the Bully Kutta has not a set standard (which is not true).Hence No one has really done enough to make sure we isolate all the Pakistani Fighting breeds.
It is high time we start to recognize each Bully Kutta breed, strain or type separately and stop calling every big dog just a BULLY KUTTA.
